Youth Coordinator Functions


QNW has had a youth coordinator since January 2003 to advocate on behalf of all young Aboriginal women in Quebec. She coordinates their collaborative efforts to defend their common interests. Her role is accordingly that of representative to voice the needs, concerns and opinions of young Aboriginal women at the regional, provincial and national levels.


 


Representation



  • Assist QNW's president and/or executive director in all youth files.
  • Represent QNW on government and non-government committees involved in youth issues.
  • Organize and/or participate in youth conferences in the Aboriginal communities in Quebec and Canada.
  • Meet with groups working on Aboriginal youth issues in Quebec and Canada.

Analysis and Research



  • Examine reports and research projects on Aboriginal youth in Quebec and Canada.
  • Identify and study recommendations made concerning Aboriginal youth.
  • Maintain contact with the Youth Secretariat regarding Aboriginal youth issues.
  • Provide liaison between QNW and government (or other) organizations.

Development of New Projects



  • Organize activities and/or special events on youth issues (conferences, consultations, training, etc.) for QNW members.
  • Prepare funding requests for activities under the youth file.
  • Create a youth council for QNW.
  • Collaborate in events put on by other organizations.

Support for Aboriginal Youth



  • Help young persons find and use the resources available in their communities.
  • Ensure follow-up on the recommendations made by the youth participants in the 2004 Gathering of Young Aboriginal Women.
  • Create a directory of resources available to youth in the communities and urban centres.
  • Maintain and expand the Aboriginal youth network.
  • Inform young persons about programs (scholarships, summer jobs, etc.) available through the youth network.
  • As coordinator of the QNW youth file, maintain contact with the youth representative and youth delegates.
