Mandate of the Health Coordinator
The primary mandate of the QNW Health Coordinator is to promote the health of Aboriginal women living in Quebec and to defend their interests. In doing so, the coordinator will be responsible for carrying out the following:
- Examine reports and research related to Aboriginal women's health in Quebec and Canada
- Make recommendations for the improvement of the health of Aboriginal women
- To exert a political influence in particular by carrying out memoirs on the health of Aboriginal women
- To meet the various groups for which the health of Aboriginal women constitutes a priority
- To make oral and written presentations on health
- To take an active part in conferences relating to Aboriginal health
- To organize special activities and events on health for Aboriginal women
- To establish and to maintain contacts with the civil servants of the Minister of Health who are responsible for questions related to the health of Aboriginal people
Principle Objectives
The actions of the Health Coordinator must correspond with the following objectives:
- To promote a better understanding of the numerous stakes related to the assumption of responsibility for health services and programs
- To assure a better understanding of the programs, services and resources available
- To support an effective and early recourse to the resources of health
- Accentuate activities of prevention, education and sensitization
- Accentuate activities that promote health
Implement the recommendations put forth by Aboriginal women as regards health - To support the development of services which adequately meet the needs of Aboriginal women
- To sensitize Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal decision makers to the reality of the concerns, needs and proposed solutions of Aboriginal women to mitigate the gaps in the provision of services and the activities that promote health
- To determine methods that will make it possible to evaluate our actions in health
