Kahnawake, September 27th, 2019 – In this Climate Week and in anticipation of the Climate March which will take place this Friday, September 27, 2019, Quebec Native Women (QNW) joins its voices with thousands of other organizations to reiterate the importance of caring for this Earth who has always taken good care of us.

Our Mother Earth feeds us and the respect we owe it goes far beyond environmental law. That said, the important literature on climate change and its adverse effects on all life forms proves that we are no longer treating it with the deference we owe it. Land degradation and climate change are having a profound impact on the holistic health of Indigenous women. These consequences affect not only Indigenous women in Quebec and Canada, but also our Indigenous sisters abroad, especially those who suffer the consequences of mining, or those who are victims of fires in the Amazon.

“We are mobilizing this week and encourage collective, citizen and peaceful mobilization to save the planet for present and future generations!” – Viviane Michel, QNW’s President.
