The Project for the Elders is the organization and implementation of gatherings of elders and youth through the First Nations of Quebec, whose objective is to facilitate activities on the transmission of culture and identity. The purpose of this project is to defend the interests of all Indigenous Elders in Quebec and to promote their social, political and civic engagement.
The Coordinator for the Elders is currently working on the “Listening to the Wisdom of Niokominanak (Our Elders)” project, which brings together women from each nation, elders and youth, to promote the intergenerational transmission of identity, culture and history through the perspective of the elders. The gatherings create a space where elders are encouraged to assume their traditional roles as teachers by sharing their experiences and teachings with the young women of their nation.
